How do I store homemade dog treats?

You can keep these cookies at room temperature for a day of two, but afterwards they should be stored in the refrigerator or freezer. They will keep in the refrigerator for 10 days and in the freezer for months.

What peanut butter is safe for dogs?

Any peanut butter that doesn’t contain xylitol. Xylitol is life threatening to dogs and can cause severe liver damage. We also like to avoid peanut butter that contains sugar, salt, and added oils. Just plain peanut butter with nothing added is our choice!

How much is too much?

Dogs should only be given peanut butter in moderation. A small amount (1 tsp) a day is fine. 1 teaspoon of peanut butter contains 3 grams of fat. Peanut butter is high in fat and calories, so less is more.

Easy Peanut Butter Dog Treats

Ingredients...

  • ½ cup room temperature peanut butter
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • ½ cup oat flour
  • ¼ cup hot water

Instructions...

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and set aside a baking pan.
  2. In a large bowl, stir together peanut butter and the egg.
  3. Add whole wheat and oat flour to the peanut butter mixture and fold mix until the flour
    is fully incorporated.
  4. Add the hot water and mix until you can form a ball.

  6. Once rolled out use a 2” round cookie cutter or a 2” glass to cut out cookies and set
    them on the sheet pan.
  7. Bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and let cool before serving.
